Big Brother Africa 8 (also known as Big Brother Africa: The Chase) is the eighth season of the Big Brother Africa series. It ran for 91 days between the 26th of May and 25th of August of the year 2013. Ikponmwosa "IK" Osakioduwa returned as the host of the show for the fifth time in a row.

FormatEdit

Housemate SetupEdit

There were twenty-eight housemates this season and lived in two different houses (Ruby House and Diamond House). The housemates were competing for US$300 000. This season, fourteen countries participated and each provided two contestants to be a housemate. All fourteen countries were returning countries. These fourteen countries were Angola, Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Head of HouseEdit

The Head of House was feature that would give one particular housemate special and unique privileges. This would especially come in handy during nominations for they were given a special privilege in terms of saving and replacing nominees. Each Head of House for the week would be determined by the Head of House challenges played on Friday. Whoever wins the Head of House challenge becomes the following week's Head of House.

NominationsEdit

Every week, housemates were to nominate two other housemates up for eviction. The housemates who received the most nominations were then put up for eviction. The Head of House must then decide which housemate to save and which housemate to replace them with or the Head of House will also face eviction. If the Head of House was also nominated, they can save themselves and put up another housemate in their place. Depending on the Head of House's decision, that list will be the housemates put up for eviction that week and Africa will then decide who stays and who goes.

VotingEdit

This season, viewers voted for the housemate they wanted to save. If a housemate received the least votes from Africa, that housemate would be evicted out of the competition. During the finale week, viewers instead voted for the housemate they wanted to win and see walk away with the prize money. The votes were split into fourteen country votes with the Rest of Africa split as the fifteenth vote to split up possible ties.

Three Strike RuleEdit

This season, Big Brother added the Three Strike rule. Unlike previous seasons in which a housemate would get immediately disqualified after breaking an intense rule, a housemate would instead earn a strike for that particular action. Should a housemate get three strikes, then that housemate will be disqualified from the game.

HousematesEdit

On Day 1, entered two different houses on launch night.

The houses entered by each housemate were determined by various factors. The male housemates each possessed a red or yellow item of clothing that would indicate their house. If the housemate had a red item of clothing, they would go to the Ruby house while if they had a yellow item of clothing, they would go to the Diamond house. The female housemates were asked by IK to pick a smile of the male housemates from his pad to reveal the housemate that would join them. If the male housemate was going to the Ruby house, the female housemate was also going to the Ruby house. Likewise, if the male housemate was going to the Diamond house, the female housemate was also going to the Diamond house.

TwistsEdit

A twist is an addition to the Big Brother game that makes the competition more interesting and gives different results and also contributes in changing a housemate's opinion on the game that they are playing. The following twists occurred this season:

Emerald HouseEdit

On Day 21, Big Brother informed the housemates that there was a third house, supposedly called the "Emerald House". The Emerald House didn't actually exist. It was a deception to make housemates second-guess their chances of winning. On Day 48 during the Channel O party, Big Brother introduced six housemates from the "Emerald House":

The introduction of these "new" housemates was intended to confuse the actual housemates when Big Brother sent them on a mission on Day 49. On Day 61, it was revealed to the housemates that the Emerald House was fake all along and the fake housemates left the house that day.

Power of NoEdit

This twist allowed one housemate to deny another housemate from competing in the Head of House challenges. Housemates were given a task that would allow the winner of it to use their powers. This began on Week 2 for the upcoming week.

*Elikem had actually won the Power of No challenge for Week 10, but it was revealed that he cheated on it, so Big Brother decided to veto him instead.

House SwapEdit

In this twist, the two houses played Airtel games against each other every Friday afternoon. The Head of House of the winning house was then given a privilege that would allow them to exchange two housemates from each house to the opposite house.

Week 1Edit

The Diamonds were the winners of the Airtel Arena games. Head of House, Feza decided to send Denzel and Neyll to the Ruby house in exchange for Hakeem and Melvin, who went to the Diamond house.
