Big Brother Africa 9 (also known as Big Brother Africa: Hotshots) is the ninth and thus far, last season of the Big Brother Africa series. It ran for 63 days between the 5th of October and 7th of December of the year 2014. Ikponmwosa "IK" Osakioduwa returned as the host of the show for the sixth time in a row. The season was meant to run for 91 days, but the house that was set up for the housemates burnt down and was unusable for the duration of the competition, so the production team revamped another house to make the housemates live there.

Format

Housemate Setup

There were twenty-six housemates this season and all lived in the same house. The housemates were competing for US$300 000. This season, thirteen countries participated and each provided two contestants to be a housemate. Twelve of these thirteen countries were returning countries. These twelve countries were Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The thirteenth country was new to the game. That country was Rwanda.

Head of House

The Head of House was feature that would give one particular housemate special and unique privileges. This would especially come in handy during nominations for they were given a special privilege in terms of adding nominees. Each Head of House for the week would be determined by the Head of House challenges played on that Monday. Whoever wins the Head of House challenge becomes the week's Head of House.

Nominations

Every week, housemates were to nominate two other housemates up for eviction. The housemates who received the most nominations were then put up for eviction. The Head of House must then decide which housemate to add or the Head of House will also face eviction. Unlike previous seasons, if the Head of House was nominated, their name was automatically nullified from the nominees list. Depending on the Head of House's decision, that list will be the housemates put up for eviction that week and Africa will then decide who stays and who goes.

Voting

This season, viewers voted for the housemate they wanted to save. If a housemate received the least votes from Africa, that housemate would be evicted out of the competition. During the finale week, viewers instead voted for the housemate they wanted to win and see walk away with the prize money. The votes were split into thirteen country votes with the Rest of Africa split as the fourteenth vote to split up possible ties.

Housemates

On Day 1, twenty-six housemates entered the house on launch night.

Extravaganza

This season, a new task, called The Extravaganza, was added. This occurred every Saturday night. The housemates were split into two teams that were chosen by the Head of House for the week. Week 7

Due to the housemates heading towards the finals, the the Extravaganza didn't carry on from there.

Star-Meter

This season, a twist has been added. It is called the Star-Meter. Each week, IK will ask a question to the viewers on which Housemate qualifies for the asked question. The Housemate with the most votes will receive a prize from Big Brother the following Monday. These are the Star-Meter questions as follows:

Week Question Housemate
2 Which Big Brother Hotshots housemate has the X-Factor? Tayo
3 Which Big Brother Hotshots housemate is the sexiest? Tayo
4 Which Big Brother Hotshots housemate is the sneakiest? Macky 2
5 Which Big Brother Hotshots housemate is the laziest? Samantha

Return of the Exes

On Day 42, another twist had been added. Ten ex-housemates had returned to compete against the current housemates. Each ex-housemate was from a country that was still competing in the game. The current housemates had to compete to impress Africa to keep them. If the housemate was not good enough for the fans, then that ex-housemate would replace him/her.

These were the ten ex-housemates:

However, this was a prank that Big Brother played to the housemates which will see how the housemates will cope against their competition. The ex-housemates were not competing for the money, but were sent by Big Brother to cause havoc in the house.

They left during the live eviction show on Day 49.
